Windchill DTI Install/Run Issue

$

Hi All,

I've got a test 10.1M040 Windchill server set up and want to run DTI on my local machine (Win 7 64bit) Office 2010

I've set the preferences in Windchill and downloaded and run the installer from the server as directed in the DTI Guide.  When I run MS Word or Excel Windchill tab appears correctly.

I then configure the connection to the server which asks me for Username and Password.

When I try to use "Select Active Server" it comes back with

DTI Error.png

The software was installed from the server so the version is correct.  It looks as though it is not writing the values into the registry correctly.

If I repeat the same on another machine (64 bit) logged in as me it all seems to work correctly and there are differences in the registry entries

Anyone seen this and fixed it

PS if I do change the registry so the server values are correct I get another error as follows: -

DTI Erro2r.png

I got to Demo this to some interested sections of the business next week so am trying to get this fixed,

IMHO - TS are not being very helpful

Regards all

Hi All,

How to attach a WTPart's representation to another WTPart programatically ??

Using PublishUtils or VisualizationHelper or RepresentationHelper API's I am only able to copy the "Structure" but not the "Derived Image".

Please suggest something.

Hi All,

Anybody used FolderHelper.assignFolderByReference(part, oRef); to move objects from one container to another? Please help with the usage. I couldn't find a way to use this piece of code properly.

Thanks,

Strange display issue

One of my Windchill users is having an issue, occasionally while navigating through Windchill the program will stop displaying folder contents.  The contents of the folder will flash on the screen, then nothing will be display.  So far the only way we have found to solve this issue is to restart the program.  To this point this is only happening to one user and only happens while using the embedded browser within Creo.  The embedded browser is currently set to mozila_based_browser.

We are using Creo 2.0 M040 and Windchill 10.1 M040.

Any help would be appreciated.

Upgrade Issue When wtPart Structure Driven by CAD

We drive our wtPart structures from CREO.  Before an upgrade they structures are built and everything shows fine.  We perform an upgrade and all of a sudden our compares are out of date and need to be rebuilt.  Last upgrade I did I thought maybe the one that I checked hadn’t been built since we were in the process of fixing them.  This time however when I did my test upgrade, I picked one that was built and showing okay.  After the upgrade it showed that it was no longer built.  If you do multilevel BOM build it will fix it.  This upgrade was from 10.1 m030 to 10.1 m040.

If you drive your structures the way we do, please let me know.  Also let me know if this has happened to you or not. If it has happened to you, do you have a fix for it?  I think that there is something wrong with upgrades that isn’t being done.  I don’t want to have to rebuild 1000’s of BOMs every time we do an update.

Thank you,

Brian

Which event to listen for to catch a name change

Hello!

I have a listener in Windchill and have figured out how to catch 2 of of 3 events when it comes to rename in Windchill 10 M030.

To catch a change of filename aka CADName I listen for:

EPMDocumentManagerEvent.PRE_CHANGE_CAD_NAME

To catch a change of NUMBER I listen for:

IdentityServiceEvent.PRE_CHANGE_IDENTITY

However to listen for a change of NAME I'm stuck.

Does anyone have an idea what to look for?

It looks as if I can obtain this using:

PersistenceManagerEvent.POST_STORE

But I believe this is a little late in the chain since I plan to stop the transaction if some criteria are met and that would probably result in a rollback.

Any help is appreciated!

Best regards,

Peter

Remote Integration with Windchill

I'm attempting to setup a very simple read only integration with Windchill. There's an abundance of documentation on the Info*Engine, but much of it seems to start in the middle, with almost nothing on actually getting started.

I'm also a little stumped on what approach is actually considered the current best practice. In our situation, we will have the Windchill instance on one server and the other application on a completely differnt server. We've done this specific integration with other apps several times now and we we've typically used fairly straightforward SOAP or REST web services to pull information from the other application.

So what is the best way to do this with Windchill? Our connector architecture is all Java based so in an ideal world we could write something to access the Windchill directly, but if we need to use a web service, that's fine too.

If I understand correctly, remotely accessing Windchill involves invoking one of a number of stored "tasks". These tasks are actually jsp pages, but with an extension of ".xml". There are a number of PTC created default tasks. There seem to quite a few ways to invoke the tasks and retrieve the results from their invocation, but this is where I start to lose the trail, and I'm not even 100% sure I'm correct with what I described. I looked for some training on this topic at PTC University, but didn't see anything that matched our needs.

I read about something called the "Service Access Kit (SAK)". What I'm not able to determine is if this "kit" is something that can be downloaded or if it's something that is included as part of the Info*Engine implementation in Windchill. I've tried to run some of the SAK code samples I've found, but as I described above, the samples start in the middle; they are just the code itself with no information on how to setup a development environment where one could actually run that code. In an effort to get the code running, I've copied nearly every jar file I can find (hundreds of them) in my Windchill installation to my development computer and added them to my classpath and I STILL get ClassNotFoundException's when I try to run the code snippet.

So I'm a bit lost. Any tips?

Changing version Scheme

Recently we have Installed Windchill 10.1 with certain versioning scheme in which A1 comes after A10 and I have uploaded all the legacy data with that versioning scheme now i realise that A1 should be before A10. I am afraid that if I change the version order the data may get corrupt. Can I have a work aroud for that? Later after the data loading I will be disabling A1 as legacy version.

Desktop Integration and Acrobat (or other PDF)? WC10.1 M020

Hi All,

I'm looking at Desktop Integration as a potential way to address user complaints about the number of clicks to dowload a Document.  From what I can see there's no way to filter by State and/or Latest in Windows Explorer - please tell me I'm missing something because that's probably a non starter right there.

Use case is Creo Drawings are exported to PDF and stored as primary content in a WTDocument.  Multiple reasons for this approach including being able to "hardwire" the relationship to WTPart and needed user control of Drawing image at "plottng".  Drawings get digital signatures applied as part of the approval process.  Unfortunately, user experience has resulted in the approval process occurring offline via emails and Network Folders, upstream of WC CM Workflow (completing Change Task).  I'd be interested to hear how others are addressing Digital Signatures withing workflows.

Other stakeholders are non-engineering (purchasing).  DTI would be a great way for buyers to access drawings (pdf's) via drag and drop.  It probably means getting to a single Drawings Library (unfortunately OIR's only do Relative Paths, not Absolute so that's another discussion).  Assuming that all drawings (PDF's) were stored in a single Context, a view or filters would be needed to ensure that only latest and Released were visible to these users.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Creating new document in DTI failed with message "PostFile"

Hi,

every time I try to create new Windchill PDMLink document via DTI in Office 2010 SP1 32bit, document creation is successful, but after few seconds error message pops up with message:

The system cannot find the file specified. PostFile

If I check in PDMLink, new document with chosen name exists, but as NoContent document. Windchill did not successfully upload document.

There is an SPR opened in PTC (https://www.ptc.com/appserver/cs/view/spr.jsp?n=1992399) from year and a half ago, but without workaround and I am stuck with it.

Does somebody know any workaround for this problem?

Windchill creating unwanted new family table instances

My users are seeing an issue in Windchill that is causing a lot of problems with our family table parts.  We are using execute statements in proe to change the length of parts based on the assembly they are used it.  When we do this we do not check out the parts, because we are not making a change to the part that needs to be saved.  When the conflict manager comes up and we select “continue” if we forget to select “verify now” for the instances of family tables we are getting new items in our workspace that it’s trying to add to the existing family tables.  Its seems like its removing and instance and recreating it in the table.  This new instance then creates a conflict in the workspace, as it already exist.  Its only happening for 3 family tables, so some of tables are working just fine.  When this happens it requires us to clear our workspace and start over with our changes.  Has anyone experienced this before and does anyone have any suggestions to stop this from happening.  I included a screen shot of the workspace so you can see the new items and the errors.family table error.png

We are using Creo 2.0 M040 and Windchill 10.1 M040.

Saved Searches - expose without requiring users to unhide it

Saved searches  are great for finding what you need quickly.  As part of a cut over from Pro/INTRALINK we need to configure 5-10 saved search some of which are for view only users.  We want to avoid having to train each user how to manually go find and "show" the saved search.    It seems strange PTC hasn't allowed admins to expose a saved search without requiring actions from each user.  Some just never get the message.  This results in our short simple view print LMS course being 1/3 about exposing the searches, which should be pushed to supplemental training

Tech Support says their is no way to automatically expose a saved search but surely some of the smart folks on this community have figured this one out.  If so I'd love to hear more.

I'd also like to track down the PTC product manager for the search function.  This is a core need to my opinion.  At a minimum I think they currently have it backwards.  Let admins expose the search and let users hide them if they choose

How to create such second hierarchical data table in Windchill PDMLink ?

Hi:

I do have a bunch of applications to move to Windchill, however in order to reduce the impact on business and preserving Windchill functionalities I need to map part of the related usability and embedded Business Rules to PDMLink.
In order to do that, I am studying the Windchill 10.1 M040 Customization Guide and I am also searching for customization posting all over the PTC-Community and PDS-Advisor. I have found most of customization I need.
However I have to figure out how to create a second hierarchical data table in PDMLink as shown in the attached file.

Can someone help me on this ?

Best regards
