Is there a way to link two CREO part models together in Windchill?

I have two CREO part models that I would like to referenced to each other. Is there a way to create a link between them in Windchill?

 

The original part is a sheetmetal part.  The second part is designed to use the same blank with different bends.  We need to insure both models and drawings will be revised when a revision is needed to the blank.

 

We have tried using an inheritance feature unbending the part and adding new bends, but the new bends cross old bends and CREO will not allow that.

How to get display a warning in case a new task is received

Hi

On occasions the creation of a promotion request can produce an error due to the checks build in there. The user does get an error task in this case but if he does not verify his homepage he is under the impression that the promotion request went through and waits for approval. It should be good if he would get a pop-up box informing him that an error task exists for the just created pr.

Setting the default value for the OOTB WTPart attributes via OIR

Can you tell me how I can set the default value for the OOTB WTPart attributes (End Item, Assembly Mode, Source, etc.) via OIR? We would like to set different default values across context.

 

Use case:

We have a library for purchased component. These parts should have a default value of Buy for Source. We manage our own products in product containers where the default value for Source should be Make.

What license is required to connect Windchill with SAP?

do we need license to connect Windchill with other system?

 

Case 1 : Connecting Windchill with SAP PI web services.

Case 2 : Update some database with windchill. Fetch information from that database in other Applications.

Case 3 : Sharing Windchill Data with other Application with Excel, text, XML or other file Formats.

Switched from Creo 2 to Creo 3 - now PTC_COMMON_NAME works differently?

Hi All,

 

I am wondering if you guys came across this issue:

We just switched to using Creo 3.  We were using Creo 2 with Windchill 10.2

 

Our start parts have these standard relations:

 

PART_NUMBER = rel_model_name()

PART_NAME = PTC_COMMON_NAME

 

PART_NUMBER and PART_NAME are designated parameters, and they are used in standard drawing's BOM tables.

 

Anyway, with Creo 2, when I renamed the CAD object in Windchill commonspace and downloaded this object to a workspace, then upon opening it and doing a regeneration, we'd get a warning about regenerating a read-only model.  Subsequently, when attempting to save it, the "checkout/continue/make read-only" dialog box would be shown.

 

Now, in Creo 3, sames scenario leads to the model regenerating without any notifications (which is kind of nice), and the model parameters are changed (silently).

However, if one does nothing else to this model, and tries to save it, then the system says "object not saved because it was not changed"  But that's obviously wrong, since the values of the PART_NUMBER and PART_NAME parameters have changed.

Moreover, one cannot check in these changes; the workaround seems to be to make a non-change to a model such as moving a feature in the model tree to a new spot and them moving it back to its old spot.

 

 

Is this the intended action?  On one hand, it kind of seems to work.  But I also seems wrong, and I will be looking at how this works with "as stored" drawings.

 

 

In the meantime, are there some settings in Creo 3 that I should know about and modify our standard configurations?

workflow expression code - count number of affected objects

Don't ask why but I'm in need of code that can be applied in a workflow expression robot that counts the number of affected objects on a promotion request (technically the "promotion targets.").  Need to branch the workflow if above a certain number.

 

Getting stuck trying to make it work - would appreciate any suggestions.

Why am I asked to check things out just to open a drawing?

I really need help with this. It bugs me. When I go to open certain things (drawings, assemblies, whatever) I am given the pop up window that says "This object is read only as it is not checked out" and gives me a list of things to check out. I can find no rhyme or reason to what it wants me to check out. For instance, right now, I am trying to open a drawing of an assembly. The drawing is in a released state, the assemblies in the drawing are in released states. All I want to do is open the drawing. Why on earth would I be asked to check out two (not all, just two) of the sub assemblies?

 

Any clues, hints, nudges in the right direction would be hugely appreciated. I'm sure there's some logic, I'm just completely missing it.

Disconnected participants after updating to CPS22, PDM Link10.2 M020

After a successful patch of CPS22 from CPS2. I received emails saying that I had several participants that were disconnected from LDAP. I have read the article on how to search for disconnected participants and either delete them if they are no longer used or add them back into LDAP, but my question is do I need them?

I don't recognize these License users, can anyone provide some insight please?

Publish Arbortext to (graphic?) wtDocument

We are in the process of rolling out wtpart centric PLM.

To do that we are mapping CAD Documents to wtParts and also the Dynamic Document (Arbortext) Assembly Instructions.

 

The problem is that the Assembly Instructions can revise without revising the wtpart and or CAD Document. When that happens the Content relationship from the wtpart to the Dynamic Document is broken.

The workaround is to iterate the wtPart and restructure the Part to the Dynamic Document. This is world be inefficient.

 

Wondering if anyone has experience publishing the content from Arbortet dynamic document as the primary file of a wtDocument?

 

The reason is to use the Reference Document link to the wtPart that would enable the link between the wtPart and wtDocument regardless of Version of each.

Anyone customized a referenced by link for EPMDocuments?

Hello,

 

We have a need to create something like a Referenced By link between WTParts and EPMDocuments. Our use case is mainly for Dynamic Documents (Arbortext), which contain product specific documentation.

 

We have WTParts representing top level assemblies.
We have Arbortext authored product documentation as Dynamic Documents for the WTPart assemblies.
The groups maintaining the WTPart and the Dynamic Documents are independent.
Requirements for change for the product and the documentation are completely independent.
Revisions to the WTPart often do not require revision of the Dynamic Documents, the individual revising the WTPart would not always know the correct course of action for the documentation.
Revisions to the Dynamic Document never require a revision to the WTPart.
We require a Version to Master link that will work for Dynamic Documents similar to how Reference by Links work between a WTPart version and a WTDocument master. This would allow the two groups to work as independently as possible while maintaining the link between the objects we require.

 

The only out of the box association between the objects is content, which is version to version and the configurable link object does not support EPMDocs. This only leaves customisation as a solution. Dynamic documents are a are a sub type of EPMDocs (so are CADDocuments), if we put something in place for EPMDocuments then we can use it for both objects. Like many customers we have use cases for reference linking some CAD content to WTParts also.

 

It seems likely to me that someone might have already done something like we need. Has anyone done it or know of any partners that might sell a solution?

MPMLink Work Instructions

Can anyone assist with troubleshooting why we cannot see allocated parts on a work instruction with certain users?  Manufacturing Engineers are able to create Process plans and view work instructions without any missing data...but a shop employee with read and download permission to a Process Plan cannot see allocated parts. Multilevel report.

For some reason, when i pull a multilevel report from windchill, my report comes out incorrect when i export it.  now, understand.  its not incorrect with its quantities, but, it is.  here is what i mean. 

 

my 2nd level assemblies, are correct.  but under those 2nd level assemblies, it has the incorrect qty of parts listed.  meaning.. i need (2) of the 2nd level assembly.  all the 3rd level parts are doubled in qty.

 

here is the example of what i am talking about.  my top level is 9700-1729-05, under that, i have (2) 9700-1479-01 bottle assemblies.  but, it shows a qty of (2) of the bottle, label and kit.  why does it do that?  is there a way for it to not report it out like that.  see the lower attached image of the actual report from that part.  it shouldnt double the parts under the assembly.

Is there some different way to structure the report so it shows it correctly?

CAD Worker stealing Intralink License

I got a weird one for you guys, I've searched and searched and come up empty so far.

 

We have a CAD worker set up for visualization on a Windchill 10.2 / ProIntralink 8.x server.

 

The CAD worker properly grabs the PROE_FoundationVIS license when it starts up, but every time it tries to publish a file, it also requests one of our Intralink_8_0 licenses as well. This then prevents one of our 4 users from connecting to Windchill. If the case is that all of our Intralink licenses are used up, the CAD worker publishing fails. Publishing works fine when there are spare Intralink licenses, but as soon as all of them are in use, either one person can't connect to Windchill or the publisher fails.

 

Here's the CAD worker grabbing FoundationVIS, and then Intralink right afterwards when it publishes a file:

If there are no Intralink licenses available, the worker throws an error (Failed to register Windchill server with --15 error code):

I'm stumped on this one, I've reached out to our reseller that installed it and so far they haven't found anything.

 

Anyone run into this before?
