CAD Doc Model Units as Attribute

$

I know that the model units of measure can not be shown in the model tree, but I'm looking to figure out is the units used for a model's materials density can be mapped and then reported on in Windchill. Perhaps mapping the model mass property includes units that can be reported on (or displayed) in Windchill? Ideas?

Thanks in Advance,

Query builder to find unassociated CADs

$

Hi!

I'd like to find all CAD documents which are haven't associations with WTparts. I need to find which CREO *.prt and *.asm files are not associated with WTparts by any association (owner, contributing image etc.). I've found Document - CS190123 which description is "Query builder to fetch all EPMDocuments which do not have a associated WTPart". It looks like a solution to my problem but when tested it the result was showing also drawings (*.drw), family table members (associated with wtparts) and cad parts which name is different from corresponding WTpart name (these are also associated with wtparts).

Could someone help me to adapt this query to my requirement?

Attributes for a Promotion Form

I need to add attributes to the promotion form (for conditional routing).
I've created and added the soft types to the object, but during form
creation, the attributes are not accessible.  The show when later looking at
the details of the promotion request, but not during form creation.

I thought I've run into this before.  Does someone know the solution to
this?  TIA, will post the solution.

Part/End Item Toggle

I thought I had seen before that you could edit a wtPart and change it from a part to an End Item.  Looking under attributes for a part, I see a value for End Item = No, but editing the part does not give me access to change this.  How do get this so I can change a part to an End Item and back?

TIA, will post summary

Adding Messages to Windchill Page's Header

I have a request to somehow post messages to the Windchill community of a future shutdown. I have seen messages displayed on the Windchill pages, my first intuition was to simply edit the Windchill logo image file, however, it would be nice if someone has figured a more dynamic approach.

Team Center for ProE Files

Along the lines of the good discussion about Agile EC, I'd like to ask
the same question regarding Team Center. What are the experiences out
there for using Team Center?

My exposure: we have a customer that uses TC for ProE and I have been
through their training. A few issues I picked out include;

-          Interrupted saving to TC (upload/checkin) can result in
corrupted datasets (implies to me the architecture does not use a server
side cache with validation)

-          Ability to check in instances without checking in the generic

-          Allows 'Save Up' of an assembly without including new or
modified components

-          Save As does not reset the revision of a model

-          Including component drawings during top level assembly fetch
requires special technique

Using Multiple Version of Pro/Creo

We've got the requirement that we use multiple versions of ProE (WF2 -
Creo2) and need to keep the files in those formats (customer
requirements). Has anybody worked out a solution for this yet?

Related questions/ideas;

-          How to access/display the ProE version the file was last
saved in?

-          Could Model Check be used to prevent check-in if the ProE
version was 'wrong'? Or using the same approach that WC uses to block
Failed MC check-ins?

-          I think we can separate required ProE versions by context,
can 'Open in ProE' be controlled as to which version is launched?

-          Library parts, I would think these would have to be
maintained in WF2. Other thoughts?

I have all users and data migrated from Intralink 3.4 to
Windchill\Intralink 10.0

Can someone help by confirming the basic sequence of steps for now
getting the users the access to the content? I have been looking through
the PTC University "User and Policy Administration" class but it is
somewhat vague on the actual steps

Thanks in advance,

Non-Active Workspace

While working on a partner's Intralink 10.0 we noticed behavior that I
don't think is typical.

When a workspace is not active, viewing it in the embedded browser does
not show the object statuses.

Is that normal? Configurable?

SW WGM Multiple Releases

PDMLink 10.1 M010

When using the workgroup manager for SolidWorks, it only allows you to
have one version of SW registered at a time. We have a need to support
multiple versions in order to support multiple customers. Has anyone
else faced this?  Solved it?

Approaches I'm thinking of;

-          Batch files to either use command line or configuration file
swap prior to launching the WGM.

-          Customizing the WGM to remove the check/lock that prevents
registering more than one.

Biggest concern I have, do I have to worry about corruption? Do I have
to figure out a way to force different workspaces and wt caches?

TIA, will post solution if found.

OT: Digitizing Engineering Notebooks

Off Topic,

Has anyone gone and replaced paper engineering notebooks with some sort
of digital content/capture?  The PDMLink "Notebook" seems too limited.
Was thinking of One Note, but that does not have any sketching tools.
Mathcad is probably too complex. Vuuch doesn't have sketching either
(that I know of).

Anyone? Ideas?

using sql to search for Intralink object attributes ?

Is it possible to use sql commands to locate intralink objects based our own created object attributes (such as material, cust_dwg, cust_pn etc) ? So far the only sql queries I've used are for searches such as locating objects promoted to a given release level etc, Marc Mettes helped out with these. Would appreciate any ideas or better yet an example assuming its possible.

Revising EPMDocument Without Breaking WTPart Link

Our scenarios is as follows, we have 2D drawings and WTPart at later revision than CAD. When we revise the CAD in Windchill interface we would like it to associate with the same rev WTPart but instead it it is no longer linked at all. Windchill 10.1 m030. Anyone have any idea if the desired behavior is possible?

check if EPMDoc has owner link to WTPart using API

$

Hi,

currently putting together a custom data utility, and as part of the this I need to check if an EPMDocument has 'owner' link to a WTPart, or alternatively find the EPMDocument which has 'owner' link .

I have tried the following:

  • to get all associated objects from the WTPart:
    • QueryResult cadDocs = WTPartHelper.service.getDescribedByDocuments(part)
  • to get active associated part from a EPMDoc:
    • AssociatedUtilities.getActiveAssociatedPart(cadDoc)
  • then tried to compare to see if the returned WTPart matched my starting WTPart.
    • if (AssociatedUtilities.getActiveAssociatedPart(cadDoc).equals(part)){......

However this does not always return the result I expect. If I have 2 EPMDocs associated, and 1 has 'owner' link then great - it works. If I then change that association of the first EPMDoc so that it has link 'content' rather than 'owner' and the second EPMDoc has link 'contributing content', then it return the second EPMDoc. If I then modify the association again to return the first EPMDoc to link type 'owner', it still returns the second EPMDoc which has link type 'contributing content'.

Hopefully that all makes sense?

If so, any ideas what I may be doing wrong?

the entire method I have been using to check for each associated EPMDOc is:

private EPMDocument getCadDoc(WTPart part) throws WTException {
  EPMDocument cadDoc = null;

  QueryResult cadDocs = WTPartHelper.service
    .getDescribedByDocuments(part);

  while (cadDocs.hasMoreElements()) {
   WTObject obj = (WTObject) cadDocs.nextElement();
   if (obj instanceof EPMDocument) {
    cadDoc = (EPMDocument) obj;
    if (AssociateUtilities.getActiveAssociatedPart(cadDoc).equals(
      part)) {
     break;
    } else {
     cadDoc = null;
    }
   }
   cadDoc = null;
  }
  return cadDoc;

}

Using WC 10.1 M040.

Cheers

Feasibility for managing Software code

$

The question has been asked of me;

"Would it be feasible to have our software code developers use PDM Link
(and/or Project Link) for managing the iterations of their code?"

There would be 2 s/w developers writing what I'm told is relatively
small code files.  Often times these users would be remote from the main
site (and maybe traveling).

I know a object type could/should be created etc.  But if this is done,
how will it impact system performance for other users?  Is it mainly an
issue of bandwidth and storage space?  Or am I missing something?

TIA, will post a summary if applicable.

revise in workflow

Does anybody know an expression that would just revise the business objects?  I've already figured out how to make it revise once the object is promoted however it causes some issues due to my company's lifecycle.  Again, I'm just looking for an expression that would revise the objects without needing to promote them.

Thanks.

Refreshing a Wizard step, question revisited

$

Hello all,

I have a custom wizard in Windchill 10.2. The wizard has two steps. The first step is a radio-button selection. The second step displays different things depending on what was selected in the first step.

This works well the first time that the user enters step number two. The problem is that if a user goes back to the first step, selects something else and then returns to the second step, the second step is not re-processed to show the appropriate results.

This problem was described in this thread and I did try the suggestion that was given there - that is to say: use preloadWizardPage="false" as an attribute for the action in custom-actions.xml - but this makes no difference.

What do I need to do to make sure that the JSP for a wizard step is executed every time that the user brings up the step?

With Best Regards

/Michael

Curious if there are any publishing gurus out there?  I need to create a custom publish job to republish all latest EPM documents at ‘Released’ state, preferably by subfolder instead of entire context.  I don’t begin to know how to create the custom the custom Java classes discussed in the customization guide.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks.
