Windchill and Riverbed

Just a note because I am wondering how many other organizations are using Riverbed devices and have had problems with Windchill.  Here is a brief history of what happened:

 

1) Started with Windchill 9.1 M040 and RiOS 6.5.3b.  Clients at the remote sites had frequent performance issues; the browser would appear to hang between submitting the request and getting the response.  Closing the application and restarting would show that the transaction had completed.

 

2) Disabled Parse and Prefetch in the configuration settings for the Windchill server resolved the performance issue.

 

3) After updating the RiOS to 7.0.3a Parse and Prefetch were enabled with no performance issues.

 

4) Upgrading to Windchill 10.1 M020 again caused issues with Parse and Prefetch.  It has again been disabled, and Riverbed is being contacted to see what information they have about this issue.

 

Is anyone else also experiencing such issues?

Just lost a bunch of work thanks to Windburn. Awesome!

In keeping with the fine tradition of lost productivity I've seen since I was first burdened with using it about 4 years ago, Windburn recently just decided to wipe out the contents of my Workspace, local and network.  The Workspace i still there, but is totally empty now.  Awesome!

 

So, my Engineer is ALMOST as angry as I am, and I'm in the process of writing my boss to tell him about it all.  Nice.  sure he'll be REAL happy to hear that.

 

I'm hoping to be able to look into the last network backup to see if we can't save things, but we'll see.

 

Does anyone know a REALLY GOOD Windburn VAR?  I do not want to use the same people who got us into this mess.  I realize that trying to fix Windburn is like trying to gold-plate a turd, but I'm hoping we can at least chrome-plate it......

Expression for retrieving the number of Participants

I have a custom workflow template in that I have a task let say 'Approve CR'.It have an expression robot which needs to find who are all the participants for that task and also I need to retrieve for each participant how many workflow items assigned??

 

If anyone have done this with help of expression please provide me some sample code snippet for doing this?Or Is there a better way to achieve this??

Refresh Time in Pro-E/Windchill

Does anyone experience a long refresh time when adding parts to workspace/revising/synchronizing workspaces/etc using Pro-E Browser? The time it takes to create and check-in an assembly using Windchill instead of Intralink has more than double because of the time spend waiting for the browser information to be refreshed.

Workspace Refresh Time

Hi all,

 

can anyone please guide about the following issue of Workspace Refresh Time?

 

Problem:

 

If we are dealing with large assemblies-containing thousands of components in workspace and we are using the two columns viz., "Compare Status" and "Out of Date" in the workspace view" then workspace takes significant time to refresh everytime we refresh it.

 

How can we reduce the workspace refresh time?

Pro/E Drawing Attributes

Can I create a Drawing Parameter called Material and link it to the related Part Parameter called Material ? I need this becuase I need to search drawings based ita related CAD Part Attributes like Material , Description etc . If the former happens , I can then desingate it and link it to Windchill for it search .

Windchill scripting

As a User has anyone done Windchill scripting??

Is it easy Or is it " I wish Windchill scripting was very easy to allow any Windchill users to write utilities, unfortunately it isn't. Hence we need a team to support it and it takes lot of time and effort to deploy and fix things"

 

I have approx 230 docs with over 600 files as attachments.

Any thoughts/feedback welcome

Maintaining Rev History in Drawings

Using Windchill 10.0 and Creo Elements/wf5.

 

 

Would like to keep revision history in drawings which would include letter/number followed by a brief description of change. Current models have a parameter for REV and REV_DESCRIPTION. Looking for what others are doing and what is consensus on best practice/prodedure for having rev table in drawing automatically update with new rev and description and also keep previous rev and descriptions?

the types of listener events like WorkInProgressServiceEvent,wt.fc.PersistenceManagerEvent etc...). we don't have enough explanation of Listeners in Customization guide.

Learning Windchill Customisation

Can someone guide me whats the basic knowledge that one should have to start learning Windchill Customisation?

 

I have working and implementing knowledge on the concepts of Windchill and Business administration with a fair knowledge on Java Programming, but still I don't understand how and where to use the Windchill API that are there in the documentation.

Doc Sub-Type from new Doc showing 'major' type then sub type?

Document Sub-Type from new Doc Window showing 'major' type?

Anyone know how to do this in 9.1?

This is how I have seen it. The user selects new document, then on the drop down list of document types is a document that is a parent to sub types. The sub types are not shown and the parent is not instantiable.

An example is a list with:

     Agenda

     Plan

     Project

     Specification

 

When the users selects Project they get a sub-type selection on the new Window that they can select the “Project Plan”, “Project Agenda”, “Project Budget” etc.

     Project

          Project Plan

          Project Agenda

          Project Budget

System Monitor - socketRead0

On most of my transactions in the PTC System Monitor I always see socketRead0(FileDescriptor, byte[], int, int, int) as being the highest execution time.

 

Anyone have some insight in to what is causing the high execution time? Not sure where to start to track it down.

Part Usage table customization

I am trying to set the component for an attribute in the Part Usage table, or possibly in the Edit Usage Attributes dialog, to a dynamically created list of values that the user can select from; but, I'm having trouble finding any customization hooks that will allow me to do this.

 

I can set a data utility for the attribute on the Edit Usage Attributes dialog, but it is calling getSimpleDataValue instead of getDataValue which seems to just call toString on the object I return and uses that as the attribute value.

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am in charge of implementing PDM/Windchill into our system and we have been advised (from PTC) to go with this pdm in a box solution offered by datafrond.

 

Does anybody have any feedback using this solution? or experience with it.

 

pros/cons

 

nightmares?

 

We are also working with high level engineering consultants that say they can configure themselves or at least assist in configuration.

 

In initial stages here and coming up with a cost study.

 

Just hoping to get some insight.

Searching Using Solr Query Language

Hello,

 

The company i work for has recently switched to Windchill 10.0 and I have discovered the advanced search option using solr query language syntax in the keyword field. I have never used solr before and was wondering if there was an easy way to determine the searchable fields. As of now, i have only found two; name: and number:

 

Searching other fields such as version or context give a bad request error.

Removing PSM settings in a Windchill Server

I have a clone of the live server which is being monitored using PSM, but i dont want the monitoring for the newly cloned server.

What are the settings to be removed inorder to remove the monitoring of a windchill server?

Setting State UI

Does anyone know which preference to set in Windchill that would control what objects a user sees in the set state UI?  I have found one that controls revise and it works great for revise......  We have a real problem with some users here that set state on whatever shows up in the UI (FAMILY TABLES).  I want to limit what it displays to initially selected and the related drawing only.  If they need more they can use the icons to collect more objects.
