At my company, we upload bills of materials via Excel spreadsheets. However, we had an issue with a customer recently uploading a BOM that caused the created part list to display "Loading Failed" instead of showing the parts (when running in Internet Explorer with Browser mode set to IE9 compatibility). The problem coudl be fixed by pressing F12 and changing the Browser Mode to IE8 OR by switching to Chrome. However, these methods are not officially supported by my company.

 

We eventually determined that the cause of the problem was that the part number column in the Excel spreadsheet contained Part numbers with trailing non-breaking space characters. The Java method that extracted the data from the spreadsheet calls String.trim, but it can't remove this non-standard character. As a result, the part made it all the way into the system where it caused the problem.

 

I want to modify the code we have to extract the data from the BOM import to remove these "poisonous" characters. However, I need to know what characters Windchill CAN handle.

 

You can actually recreate this issue by manually entering the part with a non-breaking space at the end of the part name. If you are in IE9 with the Browser Mode setting to IE9 compatibility, it will cause the problem.

Hi

 

I have created subtypes of the Document in the Type and Attribute Manager and accordingly created new OIR as there is different team template for these dcoument types.Now when i am selecting the view in the Folder content as "All" ;the documents of the newly created doctypes are not visible.I can only see the new doctype documents when i select the view as the "Documents" or "Contents" or"Last Modified".

 

Do we have to register the new subtypes in any propery file?

 

Any help will be highly appreciated!

For those that are using PTC_WM_CREATED or PTC_WM_MODIFIED on their drawings, this came through from PTC today:

• Since Windchill 10.2 the value of PTC_WM_CREATED_BY and PTC_WM_MODIFIED_BY contains a bracket with the information “(<username>:<organization name>)"



• The preference User unique identifier display format  controls the format string with the following options:

  1. User name and organisation

  2. Email

 

This means that starting in 10.2, if you use these system parameters on your drawings, the drawing will now display either just the email address of the user or the organization appended to the username.  Nice.  I wonder how many title blocks will have to be redesigned...  Too bad they can't just add an option for "User Name" to at least maintain previous functionality.

Hello Community,

 

Recently we went through an upgrade from Windchill 10.0 M020 to Windchill 10.2 M020.

 

Every aspect and function was successfully tested post upgrade with one major failure : The ability to Upload modified 3D models back into Windchill did not work.

 

With further investigation it was realized that only users with Creo 2.0 M110 and above were affected while all users with Creo 2.0 M070 and below were easily able to perform their CAD modifications, uploads and check-ins. We verified the vault upload functionality worked with documents and uploads of EPMDocuments from the older builds of Creo 2.0.

 

The error message presented through Event Manager was as follows:

We have tried clearing the cache of workspaces, browsers, java, config.pro and modification of the system environment variables for the users effected with no resolution.  We opened a ticket with PTC and have been working that the past week with no resolution.

 

Windchill Setup:

 

Windows Sever  2008 R2

 

Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 -64 bit

 

Windchill 10.2 M020(version.txt attached)

 

2 Foreground Method servers , 2 background method servers

 

Creo Setup:

 

Windows 7 32 and 64-bit

 

Java 1.7 u 6x or higher

 

Creo 2.0 Parametric M110 or higher

 

Has anyone seen this issue before and does anyone have a method to fix or suggestions on what to troubleshoot? Also curious what all is included in the upload Cache Descriptor.

I am new to windchill and while exploring this tool , i was trying out some basic activities in participant administration. I just created a user and the next time i went to participant administration i could not see the same user in that table, i had to perform "Add participant to table" to make it available in that table.

 

What is the relevance of this table?

 

i personally was expecting the participants created to be retained in that interface, so that the user could easliy make changes like edit, delete etc to the participant data.

If i try to open utilities like "Policy Administration"`or "Team Administration",  a new window opens but it remains blank. I have made all the possible settings that i could see on;ine to help me resolve this issue but nothing seems to be working. These are the set of settings that i have done

 

1. In IE11, i have added the site as the "Trusted Site".

2. In IE11, i have enabled options "Download signed ActuveX control" and "Download unsigned ActiveX control"

3. I have cleared the java and IE cache.

 

But till i not able to make any progress with this issue.

 

Any help on this ?????

For ease of permissions management I put users in groups.

I then put those groups in roles in libraries.

In a PDMLink 9.1 setup participants workflow task, I could assign a task to any user in the applicable role no matter which group they were in. I can't even see the groups.

In a 10.x setup participants workflow task, I see the groups in each role and users not in a group that have been added to roles but no users if they are in a group.

There is no way to expand the group or any setting that I can find to allow me to select users that are in groups.

Without groups, my permissions management is shot.

This work well in 9.1 but has been completely reworked in 10.

 

I submitted a case to PTC TS and went round and round, before and after escalating the case, trying to explain the issue and they all acted like they had no idea what I was talking about.

Eventually one of them said that it was probably impossible but he would make sure with R&D.

 

This functionality is necessary for our processes and just makes sense to have in the application.

I am dumbfounded as to why PTC TS acts like they have not heard of this, why I can't find any information on this, and why no one else seems to be complaining as I am.

 

I now need to consider third-party solutions but don't really know where to start.

 

Had anyone else had this issue?

Any solutions or ideas?

All,

We have 64 bit Win 7 pro machines but our IT want us to run 32 bit MS Office 2010.  When we install DTI it has to be 64bit because of the OS

Has anyone seen issues such as word closing down with an error or Windows Explorer closing down unexpectedly?

 

We have seen this on a couple machines now so am now delaying rolling out DTI until we can fix this

For example:

User1- can open and print the document.

User2- can open,modify and save the document.

User3- can open, modify, save and print document.

In terms of practice, the use of Family-Table or “Option and Variants” looks very similar, but in this case I would like to post my plant situation.

As you can see below, I show a Typical example of A-Sample development, in which we are use to create variants (-001; -002; eccecc) of the “Original Part Number”, we also did the same for some sub-Assy involved in this assy.

Myquestioasfollow :

 

1.I can usedashof the samePart.N°, (In case of Family table) but are bound by the use and manage complex task, ie. Managing -Simp Reps- and design table, in this case, I will have also in the "catia" than in "pro-e“ a very complex master rep, but:one Cad-3D one Cad Drawing with some generic and some specific view.

 

2.But, in all scenario (No very Complex assembly as 30/50 parts), I see the variant managementi, more related in the early stages of prototyping, where we need to produce a lot of variation of similar assemblies.

From this point of view I see more practice for example:

 

Create file-named (Parts or Assy) like 4XXXXXXX.000; -001 Manually, Same if are parts or assembly,

Create all the needed "3D-Cads" and single reference "2D-Cad", create all needed "assembly variants" manually from a 3D-CAD Autoring Application.

Later “when needed" load document in "WINDCHILL“ only a DIR for each Document with different Versions of the DIR.(no D-Matnrassigned at the moment)  (Note: Not all iterations are released to SAP).".

At the end, only needed Part-Numbers, (of Assy or parts) can be relased to SAP and linked to an A2Cxxxxx number (Wtparts),  and it’s single drawing.

 

The main question is, can I link different A2Cxxxx (SAP/Wtparts) or diferent 3d CAD Parts to the same single drawing ?

 

Linking One reference documents to multiple wtparts, and for reference documents In this case I speaking of "drawing" that normaly in "Windchill" are linked automaticlay to parts, but I suppose that this depends from some "Windchill" parameters.

In this way we should have more operational freedom, and we should do not need the family tables for assembly that I see as very coplicated. ??????

Is there a sertting that can be enabled to show the name of the file that is being saved, checked out or checked in in the log files? One of my users says he has lost some work and is positive he checked the files in. If this information was in the log files, I could verify if he did or not in the future.

Hi!,

 

I want to know if there's a rule or a way to upload specific file on spefic folder automatically?

For example: I have CAD FILES folder. This folder only accept (.prt, .dwg, .asm) file

                                 DOCUMENT folder. This folder only accept .doc, .pdf, .csv) file

 

                    If the user upload .doc file in CAD FILES Folder it will not accept it and point to the DOCUMENT folder.

 

Is that possible?

Is there a method to find or have Windchill capture the original name of a renamed file? If we create a part, 1000307.prt with number 1000307, use it in 10 assemblies and then decide to use the vendor's name. We rename 1000307.prt to loc-246.prt with number LOC-246. The assemblies will load loc-246 instead of 1000307, so that is good. Now management wants to see which parts used 1000307. As far as I can tell and get from Windchill is nothing if I search on 1000307. If I know that the new number is loc-246, I can get the where used and show the assemblies, but still no reference exists between 1000307 and loc-246. Is there a table in Windchill that might have this information?

Hey,

 

Several of our people are experiencing multiple Java log on windows when using Windchill.  They regularly see 2 or sometimes 3 log on windows appear in short order, one after the other.  This is before they even enter in their user id and password.  (See screenshot.)

 

We have had to install and upgrade IE and Java past the officially supported versions for security reasons, so I am not surprised by this happening, but am wondering if there is a workaround?

I have done a quick search and could not find a definitive answer.   Can you create a VM for the CAD Worker?   Or does it require a physical machine with graphics card?
