In our current setup we generate a unique auto-numbered filename and document number for CAD documents created in Creo. The number is generated by Windchill but the designer can override this to organize client-specific assemblies and drawings. From my point of view, generic models that are not related to that specific product should have that initially generated number.

Some designers have convinced their engineering manager that with auto-numbering and no logic in that number, it is almost impossible to save copies of the models since there is no indication if a model has te be reused or not. Furthermore, our production department is very much organized by the part numbers, but we've made some important steps to start moving away from that principle. Engineers who are eager to return to a fully manual numbering are hereby rendering our efforts obsolete and have sometimes very little interest for what ERP, reusability, ... concerns.

The advantages of automatic numbering are clear to us however, but it it appears not that easy to convince everybody. I post this question because I hope to get some input of anybody who responds with "Hey, we've managed to do this, without reverting to physical violence...". I reallty like to hear how you got this through.

1) wt.queue.QueueWatcherMBean.exceededTotalEntriesThreshold

2) wt.util.WTException: Error processing collection

Can anyone provide information or solutions regarding the above errors?

To all ModelCHECK users,

I am trying to implement ModelCHECK and follow the instructions of adding the instance -based attributes into Windchill....

Although the Gatekeeper documentation says to add these, it does not define specifically where. I am ASSuming that it means under Site>Utilities>Type and Attribute Manager, select CAD Document, then add the following MODEL_CHECK (string), MC_ERRORS (integer), and so forth. It states in the documentation that these need to be "mapped" to the parameters of parts, assemblies, drawings. Ok i think I get what this means....turn on the param creation of these parameters in modelcheck config and they will match up to the IBAs once you try to check them in??? Is that not an easier way to explain this cuz it confuses the hell out of me how they over engineer the technical language in these documents sometimes...any help would be appreciated to clarify.

I'm trying to change the URL of my Windchill by doing reverse proxy of Apache. I'm reffering WCAdv Deployment guide and also

this thread http://communities.ptc.com/thread/34430.

I have completed all the steps and after restarted all the services.Then when I try to access windchill

with my new URL it is showing Login Authorization failed error.But it didn't asked for username,password.

Am I missing something?I have attached the image for my error.I need your help and suggestions.

Hello,

As a feedback from customers I am frequently asked why it is impossible to rename several independent objects in 1 action in Windchill PDMLink.

I know it is possible to use the collector to gather required dependent objects of an assembly and, thus, being able to rename several objects, but it is for now IMpossible to rename a bunch of objects that have no relationship to one another.

I know this is common functionality in Pro/INTRALINK 3.x, but not in Windchill unfortunately. In Windchill, it is only possible to rename ONE object at a time. Renaming several object can become a burden.

Anyone?

Hi,

PTC has been busy working on an update to the Windchill Desktop Integration ribbon interface in Microsoft Office. The current ribbon implementation has been in place for a long time and looks like this. It uses standard ribbon buttons with text labels. These text labels are a bit large and verbose, making the overall layout of the ribbon very wide as shown by the collapsed Local File Actions panel.

The objective of the redesign was to make the ribbon easier to use, by presenting the most commonly used actions with large icons in a compact manner that will reduce, if not eliminate the need to collapse the action panels. We accomplished this by implementing the Microsoft ribbon Split button which allows us to put the most commonly used actions directly on the ribbon and the secondary actions below in a drop down menu.

The new ribbon UI in Microsoft Office looks like this.

Hopefully you'll find this new layout much easier to use and folks will have much fewer questions regarding the use of the various actions in the Microsoft Office Windchill ribbon.

Windchill 10.2_M020 Provides Native Drag-n-Drop File Upload Options

Hopefully everyone has seen the videos covering the new drag-n-drop capabilities coming with Windchill 10.2_M020. If not, click on the video tab and look for the following videos. They do not have audio, but they give a clear understanding of how the drag-n-drop functionality is implemented.

What changes this in 10.2_M020, is a change to the default value of the Attachments preference named "File Upload Mechanism". It has always been set to "Use Java applet functionality to select and upload files" and now it will be set to "Use basic browser functionality to select and upload files". If the browser supports HTML5, the drag-n-drop functionality will work automatically.

If after upgrading your system to 10.2_M020, the drag-n-drop capability is not working, double check the value of this preference and ensure your browser supports HTML5. I have done all my validations with Chrome and Firefox but still need to test IE 10 since my machine is still on IE 9.

Our company has recently moved to Windchill 10.0 and the toolbar in my workspace has a green plus sign to add to workspace. How does this work? Our version states that you have to have an item chosen before adding to workplace. Why do I have to search for the component and then have to add it? This is a backward step from the previous version.

Hello Guys,

I have a requirement where I want to export a long list assemblies from windchill to local computer.

Steps I follow,

- Search for assembly number,

- Add to workspace,

- Export from workspace to local drive,

As you can see, this way is not feisable for a list of assemblies.

So, i want to export the whole set of data (CAD files) from Windchill at once.

Is this possible?

If I understand right, we cannot get the dump from Windchill server as the files are encrypted (Not sure).

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
