Windchill PDMLink Packaging - What Buisness Problem is intended to solve?

My understanding of Windchill PDMLink Packaging is that it was designed to help share requirements, design, or specification with an external group in an effort to improve collaboration. I find that there are some users in the community that entertain the thought of using Packaging to solve other issues like synchronization of two PDMLink systems.

 

My questions are:

  1. What are some valid Use Cases for the use of Windchill PDMLink Packaging?
  2. Can Packaging be used to collaborate with a 2nd party if they do not have a PDMLink to import the Package? If so, how efficient would this be?
  3. Can Packaging be used as a synchronization mechanisim? What issues would be expected to work around?

 

My concerns are:

  1. PTC put considerable effort into this functionality, but yet when I try to find users in the field that are actually utilizing this functionality they are hard to find. Is this capability that is widely used? If not, then why?
  2. There appears to be a fair amount of overhead associated with managing the package. Does anyone have experience with just how costly this is?

Display assigned material info for Ansys Engineer

Hello,

 

Is there any way to get Windchill to display the material details of a checked in material so the Ansys Engineer can add it to the study? Can Windchill export the material to a format that Ansys can use directly or at least display the details of the material?

 

It would also be useful when trying to find substitute materials within the approved material database without having to go directly to external sources (matweb etc)

 

Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Error when uloading a manufacturing material

Hello,

 

This is Russell Gray with Continental Automotive SQM in Newport News. After attempting to upload a Part Submission Warrant on CLMS, I received an error message telling me that "Client received SOAP Fault from server: FailedAuthentication : The security token cannot be authenticated. Please see the server log to find more detail regarding exact cause of the failure" and "SAP pre-check error." Is there any information you can provide me to stear me in the right direction? Thank you.

Inactive Worspace

We've been experiencing an odd issue with workspaces not activating.  We are currently using Creo3 M070, WC 10.2 M030-CPS09


When Creo 3 initially fires up, what ever workspace you are in is inactive by default.  Selecting "activate" from the -Pick an Action- menu does not activate the workspace.  There are only two solutions which we have found as a work around. 


  1. Switch to a different worksapce, and then switch back to the workspace you want, or
  2. Switch the browser to Chrome.  (this issue is specific only to IE)


We logged a ticket with support, and were able to reproduce the issue in the Webex, but PTC was not able to reproduce it on their end, so they closed it.  Their suggestion was to migrate to M100 or use Chrome.  Unfortunately, one of our clients who is in M100 is now having the issue as well. 


Has anyone else experience this, or does anyone have any insight?  We're a bit perplexed.

How to stop a User selecting himself as an Approver in Promotion Request?

We need to configure a business process in which we are using the Default "Promotion Request Approval Process" that is available OOTB. We want to stop the users from selecting themselves as an Approver in the Promotion Process.

 

PTC Tech support said this isn't possible. But doesn't this kill the process by itself? When the process isn't fool proof to stop the user selecting himself as an approver what is the use of it then? Is this achievable through any configuration options?

Unable to start queues?

General Questions as Admin, Old Users?

We used to have an admin who knew a lot more about WindChill than the current people including myself, I just have some general questions I can't really figure out. We are going through and trying to removing old users. The first method thought of is to add the old users to an admin group, change their password, log in as them and then remove all their workspaces. One of our confusions is that we have probably 8, 9 different groups set up from years ago and don't understand why some have visibility to certain product libraries and contexts. We had to test everyone to find which ones had visibility of all library so that we could see their workspaces by logging into them so we could delete them.

 

The other method I'm thinking of trying is actually deleting the user using windchill's delete function and then removing their personal cabinet. Is there any issue with doing thing? Does that blow everything away? I know it asks about undoing checked out objects so I'd think it is deleting everything. The current admin who kind of fell in to the position said the old admin (who knew what he was doing) said not to do that so I'm a bit weary. Mind you these people will never be returning.

 

The next thing I've stumbled on is that as admin's we should be able to view other peoples workspaces under each context, however, we can't...with my limited knowledge we must need to alter the access control policies to give our admin group that ability? This is another grey area we haven't been able to get to work, how do we alter this? A while back we tried at the org level to change access but it didn't appear to work, do we have to be at the site level or something?

LiveCycle delegate for custom ddx watermarking

Hi all,

 

I am trying to implement a custom LiveCycle delegate to generate different ddx files based on the state of the WTDocument.

Without the custom hook the watermarking works (ddx added to visualization configuration) based on what is described in the help . In the same help file it is described how to configure a custom delegate, but based on that tutorial I can't get it working. My custom code is not called upon publishing. I have 10.2 M30 system and the worker with Adobe LiveCycle server is on a remote machine.

 

Any tips on this topic? Is there some additional step which is not described on the support page?

How to get the representation on Parts from the CAD document associated with owner link without using the build process ?

Workflow Comments

I need ideas on how to get comments sent to all participants in a workflow.

 

Example:

We have a doc called Sales Call Report, basically it's a document that is filled out after meeting with a customer.  Then it's routed around to various departments notifying them of the visit and what transpired.  People have been commenting when completing task thinking that the comments are sent to the creator.....but they are not.  I have explained that the comments are viewable only if you go back in and look for them.  Is there a way to have the creator of the document notified if a comment is entered down stream in the workflow?

Publishing a CREO Parametric drawing to PDF format, font changes.

Hi All,

 

The font style is changed on PDF's after Publishing. It is shifting some of the text out of position and off the page.

I had updated the Recipe Editor settings "Font Control" to "Stroked, searchable text" or "Stroked, no searchable text" but it's not working.

I am trying to configure WBM 11.0 into my local system. but getting error "Failure to load native dll" from Settings.txt file

Below is the entry has been provided in Settings.txt also the PATH to the wppndmerge.dll been provided.

How do I make Windchill read only?

We are retiring Windchill Intralink 9.1 soon, and migrating to a different PDM.
However, we want to keep Windchill running as read-only for a few months in case we discover any files that were not migrated.

My first thought was to make all vaults read-only. But is that enough?

Will users still be able to revise, check-out, or promote?
All we want is for users to be able to "Add to Workspace" in Pro/E so they can export afterward.

I'm hoping to avoid using the Policy Administrator to change Domain permissions.

(It's been years since I've created/changed those.)

A workflow is getting terminated when the object is in checked out state. How to avoid workflow termination

Workflow gets terminated when the user clicks on complete task while keeping the object is in checked out state. How to avoid the workflow termination? Would like to give a warning message to the user that object is in checked out state and previous activity should work. Please let me know how to do this.

How to not display family table instances in Windchill

Hi,

 

I added this part in my Windchill 10.2 workspace from a family table and it occurs that this family table is pretty big.

Is there a way to only display the generic part and not see the whole list in my workspace, or only the instance I use?

 

My assembly have something like 10 parts but they are flooded in 300 instances of a screw...

MPMLink

My company, due to market conditions, is looking into MPMlink.  Since we are using Windchill PDMlink, we naturally are looking at MPM to help transform BOMs.  I would like to hear from companies that are currently using this module: likes, dislikes, issues, and any things we should consider as we interrogate if this would be a good solution for us.  We have very large BOMs (build custom snow removal chassis), and we are 80% CTO with the remaining 20% ETO.

 

PDM: 10.2 M030 CPS 17

Would ..\Windchill_10.2\HTTPServer be considered my Apache directory?

Setting up Windchill to run as a Windows Service. Is the directory ..\Windchill_10.2\HTTPServer my Apache directory?

 

To configure Apache as a service (9.1, 10.x)

 

  1. Launch Windchill Shell as administrator (In Windows Server 2008 and later: right-click, "Run as administrator")
  2. Goto <Windchill>\Apache directory
  3. As Administrator, Execute where <ServiceName> is what you want to name service
    1. Install:
      1. ant -f config.xml installService -DserviceName=<ServiceName>
