Writing a Web Client
HI all,
I have followed the examples on how to write a web service and then compile it.
I used the example at

And then to connect to this service I have used the example at
However, this is where it falls over. (The client example is for a different service, so I have modified it for the MyJavaService example). I can get it to run from the command line exactly as the example shows, but I need to be able to access it from other places of course.
I have written a simple project in Eclipse to access this example and this is the code

But I always get a compile error on this line
MyJavaService4Service service = new MyJavaService4Service();
which states that MyJavaService4Service cannot be resolved to a type.
Does anybody know what class or jar I need to include in my build path to make this work. There is no jar for the Service4Service only a class file and if I include that it makes no difference.
Any help on how to make these examples work with Eclipse would be very much appreciated.

deleting files in WindChill - impossible?
We have a tremendous number of files that are obsolete or otherwise useless to us, and there doesn't seem to be any way to delete them in WindChill. We get all sorts of error messages, most of them stating that some sort of relationship exists. We know those relationships have been broken (family tables) yet we cannot delete anything. Most recently we got the following message:
wt.vc.VersionControlException cannot be cast to wt.epm.confilict.EPMNonOverrideableConflictException
This message makes absolutely no sense to anybody here and is obviously code for some sort of error that we cannot figure out. Is there ANYBODY out there who knows how to delete useless files?

Error in Item creation : error while uploading the file, TYPEERROR: fileUploadApplet.getTargetApplet is not a function.
I have added some extra sub types and Standard attributes in windchill 10.0 from admin user in site context. When i try to create any kind of part now, it is giving the above mentioned error.

Link/Shortcut object type to point to a shared network folder?
Does anyone know how to create a link within a PDMLink document folder to a network folder outside of PDMLink?
I know how to create links to other websites, but would like to create one to related shared network folders. When I try to it always inserts the prefix http.. in front of the network location, so it doesn't work. In addition, users have permission to create or delete link objects, but users cannot edit them!
Any ideas?

getTargetApplet for Change Request
Once in a while a user will get this error when selecting the Finish button of a Change Request.
A document on PTC's site said the fix is to clear the Java cache and try again. The first thing I have the user try is to clear the Java cache AND the temporary internet files. 98% of the time this does not fix it for the user. The document also suggests a workaround.
- In PDMLink go to Quick Links > My Settings > Preferences > Attachment > File Upload Mechanism.
- Set File Upload Mechanism to Use Basic browser to select and upload files.
This change allows the user to complete creating the Change Request.
Has anyone else seen this and is there a fix?

Windchill Desktop Integration: Created By vs Last Modified By
Hi,
We use Windchill DTI to create new Office documents based on templates. We are experiencing some issues with Created By and CreateTime attributes in Office documents. We want to use the creator and the correct creation time of the document, but this doesn't seem to work for us...
Office attribute Created By and CreateTime should be linked to the first creation of the document. Instead, they are linked and stay linked to the creator and creation time of the template the document is based on. If we use Last Mofified By and Last Mofified Date, the creation info of the last iteration is used.
Does anyone have an idea how this could be solved? Which attributes need to be used if we want to show the creation info of the document instead of the template?

Non-product specific knowledge capture in Windchill?
Hi Folks,
Sure miss the days of the email exploder (ProE) as I so rarely remember to look at forums (yep, I am a dinosaur).
This is a non CAD question about capturing knowledge that is not part or product specific. This is the sort of information you want to reuse for other projects across your organisation. In a previous job it was silos of information kept in windows folders, some more easily accessed than others and others buried deep in somebodies personal HDD or even paper files! In my present job we have specific software for this but it is a standalone system and I wonder about using Windchill for storing this design related non-part/product specific reference information as it is not related to PLM as such.
Some examples could be:
- Bend Radii for different materials/thicknesses/hardness's (though this would likely be in a bend table in Creo where is the reference information for it?)
- Reference articles on deep drawing of sheet metal
- Reference information on various adhesives (some of which are not in any BoM)
- Reference links to company products that have been researched
- ???
Usually with Windchill we have a part or assembly number or possibly a process number to attach files of various types to. But if there is no number?
My general thinking is to try and consolidate systems so that more people are more familiar with that one system so can better do their work.
Thoughts?

MAPSB problems with Equivalence links
Hi,
We are using Windchill globally but we have quite some problems with MAPSB tool and so far all our sites are reluctant to use ScView
so i want to ask whether some of you have encountered similar issue or have different solution.
We use MAPSB to generate Downstream View, even when the first ScView is generated (from scratch) the system has the icons
which shows that either the equivalent part doesnt exist or that it does not have link. This (showing icons) happens in a random way, even though the filters are set correctly on both sides (views) , also the structure is expanded before creation.
We have customized the tool and added few states so i dont know ifthat might be the issue for the straneg behaviour but anyhow is not helpful.
If anyone has ideas please reach out.. or if someone from PTC product management that can brainstorm on this that would be extremely helpful.
We have yet many sites to deply but if ScView are not used at all, the usage of the system will be far from the intendend one.

Revise part to revise 3D CAD
Dear all,
I see that in Windchill, we must revise the WTPart and 3D CAD together. Otherwise the link between them is broken. Do you think this is right? On another note, has anyone found a work around for this? If yes, I request you to share the knowledge.
