Discussion forums in PDMLink

Hello,

 

while PTC made some efforts to improve the discussion pages in PDMLink 10.x it is far to be as efficient, nice to use, user friendly etc... than for instance the forum of the ptcusercommunity.

 

It does not appear that complicated to integrate in Windchill nice discussion forum. In the past I was told that PTC was not going to make much effort because they have the Social tool and wanted to promote it (and sale it) rather improving the pdmlink discussion forum. While this makes sense in a way. I do not hear much about that tool these days.

 

I am therefore wondering what PTC strategy is. In the past I had some hard time and not alwas successed to get the users use the discussion forum rather than sending emails. One of the reasons is that user did not like it. while most of them were using all sort of specilized discussion forum. Therefore it was not that they did not like discussion forum, they just did not like the old style, low functionalities discussion forum of PDMLink.

 

As a consequence. what are my options ?

  1. Ask a programmer to customize PDMLink and make the discussion forum be eg like the one of ptcusercommunity ?
  2. Train my users that I do not need all those fancy buttons and layout and the PDMLink discussion forums does the job
  3. Wait for PTC to finally put some development into it
  4. Buy PTC Social (whatever name it is/was) or third party software and integrate ?

 

How do you make your users collaborate by using the discussion forum in PDMLink ?

Publishing to Creo View format, Creo Parametric builds

We're moving (sometime......) from WF5 to Creo Parametric 3.0.

 

Our Windchill CAD Worker is currently set up with Creo Parametric 2.0.  We're being requested to see if this would work ok, at least for some time.  Reference - We rely completely on published viewables for all business use of Drawings, so it has to publish correctly every time.

 

Please comment on the advisability / expected problems of having a CAD Worker Creo installation at a release / build earlier than what Designers are checking in.

DMSMS or Obsolescence Management

I am looking for anyone who has implemented some process to manage diminishing manufacturing sources and material shortages (DMSMS) or obsolescence.  I saw a few older posts on the subject, but the ones that looked interesting were a) old, and b) not responded to.


I am looking at trying to better support our current process by bringing some if not all of the information and processes into Windchill.


Anyone managing DMSMS or obsolescence in Winddhill?.

Affected End Items in Problem and Change Requests

There ist the possibility to add End Items to the Problem and Change Requests. (This can be disabled by a preference)

I do love the idea so we have a statistic about all the Problem and Change Requests of one End Item. But, where can I see the summary of that? There are some report samples around, but this information should be available directly on the End Item, or? Or at least it should be possible to start the report from the info page?

Or did I miss something? Is there another way to find the summary of all the changes?

For example, I want to list the Project leaders from each workflow, linked, of course, to a documet.

Email notification report

We have some people that only get an email notification.  They do not get a Task.  When they get the email they can log in to PDMLink at their convenience to review the changes of a change notice.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get a report of email notifications for either (or both):


1.       Recent/specific dates.

2.       For a specific change object.

I'm looking to see if an email actually got sent to a user for one of our workflows.  The user said they did not.

I'm trying to do a "Synchronize On: Object Event"

Windchill Object: wf variable promotionNotice that is grabbed from a number input from a user.

Event: STATE CHANGE

Initial Expression and Routing Expression are the same:

result="Approved";
} else if (promotionNotice.getLifeCycleState().equals (wt.lifecycle.State.toState("REJECTED"))){

If the Promotion Notice is already at Approved or Rejected the code works, but if it's at a different state, say Under Review and eventually moves to Approved the Synch Robot does not fire.

I must be missing something.

Looking at the help example they have a line of code

 


wt.doc.WTDocument targetObject = (wt.doc.WTDocument) ((wt.events.KeyedEvent) event).getEventTarget();

 


But this is for a different type of Synch Robot according to

Security Labels and iterations

Did I miss something? If I apply a security label, why would it tag to the iteration? Why not to the version or master item? - PDMLink 9.1
You do not need to check out the item but its odd that you can go to a previous iteration and it shows that it was not applied.

Rehost V2.0 for Windchill 10.0m040

I have read many posts about the rehost tool and its shortcomings as a viable product but from the timeframe these all appear to be directed at Rehost V1.0.

 

Has anyone developed a cheat sheet for setting up Rehost 2.0 to get through all of the settings and how they function?

 

Does the Rehost Utility V2.0 actually work better and cleanly for rehosting in preparation for an upgrade to 10.2?

How Do I Refresh Multiple Records In A Tree Component

I have a custom table component that displays records in a tree layout.  When I perform a certain action against a parent record (PARENT), certain attributes of that record and all of its immediate children (CHILDREN) are modified.  I'm able to add a DynamicRefreshInfo to the processor's form result so that PARENT is refreshed asynchronously very nicely, but I'm not able to add refresh infos so that CHILDREN are refreshed in the same manner.  It seems that when I try to add multiple refresh infos, the table component as a whole is refreshed.  That's not the behavior I want.

 

Anybody have any experience with this?

Windchill Qual. Sol. 2011, M110: Error message when importing BOM

When importing a BOM in Windchill Quality Solutions 2011 Team Edition, M110, i get the same error message several times with each imported component:

Translation: "The Microsoft Jet-Database module can't find table or query 'System'. Please make sure these exist and that the name has been entered correctly"

 

After confirming by the OK button, the import continues to the next, identical error message. After confirming all these messages, I find all components have been imported properly, however the import procedure is a " pain in the a** " as you have to click O.K. a hundred times with large systems.

 

The same Error message appears when researching the libraries for a part that is already in the system tree or when selecting a component in the system tree and changing to the tab "Calculation Data" in the Part Table window.

 

Besides the error messages itself, there seem to be no further problems.

 

 

Apparantly this problem is related to our parts database. When i created a new, Test-Database File, entered a Test-component there and added this component to the project, i did not net get the error message any more (with this component) when researching the libraries.

 

We've been using earlier versions of this tool so the database has most likey been created with an earlier version and was imported or converted to the current version (i have no details, since the person who administrated the tool and the database before is no longer with the company). However the problem seems to have existed for quite a while (already with earlier versions of the software).

 

 

Is there a way to check and consolidate the database or at least a workarround to avoid these pesky error messages?

notification issue

I have an issue with notification queue.

 

Every time I query an object using code and update it, an entry is created in notification queue.

 

I want to avoid this.

 

Any help would be appreciated.

Replacing Content of a drawing

We have a few drawings that when published through the CAD worker do not show the complete views that we have in Creo. If we save as to a PDF file, we get all of the views as they appear in Creo.

With Office documents, I can publish outside of Windchill and then import the *.pvz file into Windchill as the default representation. We did this with a bunch of .docx files before we upgraded to CreoView2 which supports them.

Is there a way to take the .pdf generated from the save as and replace the content representation of the drawing with the good version?

Change Request issues

I have extended the database and added some new attributes to the CR form. These are entered as radio buttons with Yes/No choices and one with a selection list of 8 items. When I go to create a new CR, these new attributes have 3 choices: Undefined, Yes and No with Undefined the default on a couple of them.

 

Where does the Undefined choice come from?

How do I make Undefined the default for all of my radio button items?

 

Related to this is the issue that the creator of the CR does not know the answer to all of these choices. We have added additional signoffs to the workflow that must be completed before it is approved for the Change Notice kickoff. Some of the users have Edit on the actions of the CR and some do not. They all need Edit to enable the Radio button choice and add comments to that section of the CR in a text box. I have checked that all users have identical LDAP setups. I am using Org Level Groups that I created for the Participants in the workflow. My workflow is at the Org Level as it is common between Product and Documents.

 

Any suggestions on where to look to resolve these issues would be appreciated.

Method Server crashes after Rehosting on WC start as error Invalid object name 'Repository'

Hi Everybody,

 

I have an issue to start the MS on the target server after Rehosting is completed.

 

Please help to resolve. Attached the MS lo

 

 

Source and Target Server Environment :

 

WC : 10.1 M030

 

OS : Windows 2008 R2

 

SQL Server 2008 R2

 

Steps followed :

 

1) Export the LDAP manually.

 

2) Imported the source LDAP successfully to Target.

 

3) Database backed up via SQL server Management Studio.

 

4) Restored the database successfully.

 

5) Run the ant file –

 

ant "-Dtarget-ldap=ldap://cn=manager:xxxx/" -Dtarget-domain=xxxx

 

6) Modified the db.properties appropriately.

 

7) Started the Windchill as service.

 

Fails to start with Method server failure with the below error message :

 

 

wt.services.ManagerException: Could not initialize Auditing service.

Nested exception is: wt.ufid.UfidException: A persistence error occurred.

Nested exception is: (wt.pom.pomResource/0) wt.pom.PersistenceException: A persistence error occurred. System message follows:

Which class define wt.workflow.WorkItem info page?

Hi!

I am try to find class that define wt.workflow.WorkItem info page, but I've no success result. In codebase/netmarkets/jsp/wokItem/info.jsp I can find the string that call MVC component:

But I can't to find this component.

Please help.

workflow activity - pull comments into Special Instructions

We use the comments section to communicate within the workflows activities. Users have to hunt over to the Process tab to see these instructions.
I would like to take the Comment in the activity and put it into the workflow variable special_instructions so that it shows on the task details.
Has anyone the code?

Report to list WTParts of particular view

Collecting Reference Documents (9.1)

I have a requirement to reference Illustration records to Manuals.  So I have associated the latest version of illustrations to the latest version of the Manual, making the illustrations Reference Documents on the Manual.  Going forward, when a change notice is started, I want the user to be able to collect the illustration records that will be changing in that manual, to create new revision (resulting objects) for the manual and illustrations changing.  But what happens to the illustrations that are still associated to the previous version?  Am I missing something?

 

Example

Version A of Manual has associated Version A of 10 Illustration records.

A change notice is created. Version B of the Manual and 5 Illustrations are now Version B, go through workflow and get Released.

But when a new change noticed is created for Version C of the Manual, when I go to collect the illustrations, only 5 appear from version B.  I want the other 5 that were version A to also show up, because now they may need a change.

 

How do I do this?  Need to adjust a preference?  What am I missing?
